Mark WhiteMark White, Chief Financial Officer of SAP North America, joins CFOradio.com to share his perspective on the role of the CFO in a global corporation that fosters and facilitates the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of global businesses. 

Mark joined SAP in 2002 and has held a number of positions with the company including chief operating officer (COO) of Business Operations for SAP Americas. In his role as COO, Mark was responsible for the company’s shared services organizations, including Value Engineering, Solution Engineering, Industry Solutions, and Sales Operations. In his role as CFO for the Americas region reporting directly to the CFO of SAP AG, Werner Brandt, Mark was instrumental in leading SAP Americas’ transformation over a five-year period, resulting in revenue growth and an increase in operating margin rate. During this period, Mark implemented a robust risk management process and led the company’s compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley. Mark was responsible for all financial, legal, real estate, Americas government relations, and contracts, while leading the transition team in the Americas for acquisition integration.

Astral Brands, LLC creates, manages and sells three distinct lines of health and beauty products through multiple channels. For example, in the health and beauty sector, the company manufactures and markets premier makeup, skin care and professional use products with brands designed to meet the needs of consumers, dermatologists, aestheticians, and plastic surgeons. The company also provides multi-brand, specialty catalog retail services. The company was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with offices in Atlanta, Baltimore, Maryland and Ozark, Missouri.

Thornton talks about the diversity and challenges of the finance function for a firm dealing with multiple brands. In this situation, the finance role must be flexible and adaptable to bring the same level of consistency, continuity, performance and results to meet the diverse range of financial requirements applicable to brands at different stages of growth in a variety of markets. Thornton leads the Finance/Accounting, IT and HR departments for Astral Brands.

Steve Voorhees and Lorraine ChilversSteve Voorhees is the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of RockTenn, a leading manufacturer of packaging and merchandising displays.  With annual revenues of $3 billion, the Company operates more than 90 locations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile and Argentina.

Steve brings unique perspective to his position.  In this CFOradio broadcast, Steve discusses the CFO role as being one of both leading the numbers and mentoring the team.  It’s no wonder; one of his primary past-times is starting first baseman for the Greater Atlanta Braves Men’s Senior Baseball League, so he has an ample arsenal of sports analogies, valuable on and off the field.

Steve’s career is somewhat untraditional. His career began in Operations Management and transitioned to becoming a CFO when RockTenn’s CEO asked him to take the position.

Miles Properties, Inc. is a national property manager and developer that managed and developed a portfolio of over 80 properties at its height, including apartments, condominiums, townhomes and warehouses. 

In a career spanning 15 years, Jim’s broad experience of leading key aspects of finance includes that of “keeping the company afloat during tough times”.

Miles Properties and 12 of its affiliates filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy code.  Jim has worked with 6 additional entities that operated in Chapter 11, including US Airways.
